` Instead of holding my body in a more or less vertical position so that I can type or edit videos, I've taken to studying via book and electronic means, while in more of a diagonal position. While this has been useful for my next video, I've been dragging my feet on writing my blog posts (moreso than email).
Giant "thumbnail" image for Part 1. |
` I was able to save the changes to Part 2 without causing any upheaval. However, in order to change Part 1, I had to make a copy. I took down the first copy, which had been published on January 13, at 8:57a.m., mere hours before Part 2.
` It had two thumbs-up and 142 views, probably most of them came from me watching it in sections. It was survived by no comments, but the new copy has a chance to acquire some.
That is a long-winded explanation of why Part 1 now appears chronologically after Part 2. According to YouTube, the new copy finished copying on February 24, 2017 4:07 PM, but it wasn't published until the wee hours of this morning. So, it was just baaarely bumped into March!
This was partly since I spent a while trying to find ways to "move" the video back to January. Then I figured, what's wrong with posting a "new video" that already has a Part 2?
Here's the new link to Part 1: Torture and Imprisonment, with Intro and Cat. At last, I feel like I can move onto making the next video! And there's a lot that has already been made, so my video production output ought to speed up a little, I should think!
Now, for a brief discussion of how I horribly defaced Part 2:
Annotations and Title Screens vs. Cards and End Screens
Title screens and annotations are very useful, because you can put entire sentences or paragraphs on the screen, for any length of time. As with the video featuring the Underwater "UFO", Part 1 contains annotations and title screens. (Which I had to re-write on the new copy.)
` I did this even though annotations and titles don't generally display on mobile devices. Because of this fact, I have not used very many of them, only a few strategic ones, including a link to Part 2 at the end.
` There is, however, another set of features which are compatible with all devices. Unfortunately, they only allow one to write a few words at a time, and only allow up to five "cards" and one "end screen". Unfortunately, it is not possible to make a video using both sets of features, so which one to choose?
Real cardstock, not to be confused with YouTube "card"! |
` Instead, I have inserted a "card" linking to Part 1, in case the viewer finds Part 2 first. It's no doubt more useful, if less aesthetic. Despite the broad- and flat-sounding name, there is only space for a few words, and no way to position it on the screen:
` Each card appears as a plain white banner at the top of the video, which displays more when you put your cursor on it. It isn't as obvious as the type of link that I would make if I were using annotations, but it may be more effective because it works on all devices.
This video remains at its original URL at Part 2, Pretend it Didn't Happen: Escape from the REAL Mad House! Other than these digital features, I haven't felt the need to make any other change.
One last 'improvement' I've made to these videos is adding the subject tag "Donald Trump". If we have ever needed more educational material about gaslighting, now is the time.
Now that I've published all this, I feel that the weight of having this two-part video alllmost-but not-quite finished, has been re-lifted from me. I can focus more on the next thing, and everything else in my life.
The Podcast (Skeptophany, for which this blog is named)
My ability to publish episodes of/interviews for my podcast depends on my ability to access my backup drives, and I could do that if my laptop was working. My domestic partner, Matt, who helped pay for the repair, took me up to the shop, and we dutifully retrieved my laptop.
` Once home, I plugged it in and pressed the power button. The LED lights flashed, but it didn't turn on, just as it had before taking it to be repaired. I called the shop, and they said that the part they had ordered didn't work, and so they returned it to the manufacturer.
` So, perhaps I will swap out my hard drive and put it in another laptop, or something, but somehow, I am going to access those years of podcast recordings, even if it takes me a lot more money! It's invaluable to me, so somehow or other, my podcast is going on my blog and YouTube!
For now, I will keep using the spare laptop that Matt is lending to me.
As for me...
As for me, not feeling well for so long, I seem to have started losing weight. Since I have been feeling so exhausted and hungry from this, I am of course stuffing my face, even with junk I don't normally eat.
` Including these new Wholey Cheese snack crackers, which are actually potato-based and don't irritate my stomach. Even if I eat half a bag in one sitting. An hour ago I ate some salad (without dressing) and then about 500 calories-worth of macadamia nut chocolates.
Just now I had some cocoa powder and peanut butter powder, with a little brownie ice cream, for some low-sugar hot cocoa. Because a salmon burger and mint ice cream are not enough. And the ice cream, I ate at the movie theater, yes, with Matt, watching The Lego Batman Movie. Hedonism to the extreme!
` Not having read the reviews beforehand, I thought it was at least as good as The Lego Movie, never mind the commercialism. I'm not alone in thinking that. It's also hilarious having a movie which presupposes that kids are behind everything that is happening.
` Since I thought Lego Batman is such a great douschebag boyfriend character, I wished they'd make a whole movie about him. Apparently this idea was popular with others. Hence, there was much opportunity for the writers to make fun of actual versions of Batman from over the years!
Oh yes, and because I've been sleeping so much during the day, I have been playing phone tag with my doctor's office. So, I still have yet to establish whether I've been referred to a podiatrist about the shard of glass in the bottom of my foot and all my more serious and long-term foot problems that have needed to be addressed years ago. Will get on it even moar tomorrow!
Despite the stuff that's been weighing me down, I've still been in a pretty good mood because I finally have the Gaslighting Extravaganza videos completely, completely behind me, leaving only the future to focus on. Wow. Oh, and my next blog post, video, and other projects. I will try my hardest to make them exponentially more interesting than this post!
